Rhinos Leave Town - blow off game

The team from Oregon left, and went home. So, no game for U-18s. U-16s rescheduled their game, and played at 2 PM. U-18 headed to Sea-Tac for their 5 PM flight.

Will, Rebecca and I will be headed east later this afternoon. I will not post again until I reach Sandpoint on Monday.

Sunday 2 PM Game

Team Idaho U-18 are playing a 2 PM consolation game v. Rhino Select from Oregon. If we win, we are scheduled to play at 4 PM, which we cannot. The southern Idaho boys have a plane to catch. And the north Idaho boys will be headed home as well. FYI...

Saturday Game Update: Team Idaho U-18

Tough day Saturday: the game v. Coquitlam Adanacs was a blow-out: 22-1. The good news was our score was made by north Idaho player (13) Hunter Franssen! This team went 3-0 in the tournament, and will probably be in the finals Sunday.

It was soooooo cold Saturday night that I could not text on the cell phone. Needless to say, Team Idaho U-18 had a terrific game v Megalax Maryland. It went right down to the wire - a one point win for Maryland. The scoring went tlike this:
Idaho scored first - (6) Matt Hickerson: 1-0
Maryland scored: 1-1
(6) Matt Hickerson to (2) Joseph Eck: 2-1
Maryland scored: 2-2
Maryland scored: 2-3
(2) Joseph Eck: 3-3 [score at the half]
(6) Matt Hickerson: 4-3
Maryland scored: 4-4
Maryland scored: 4-5

Megalax Maryland also went 3-0 in the round robin. They might be in the finals too. They had two close games.

Joseph Eck plays for Bishop Kelly, Matt Hickerson for Centennial.

I hear that we play at 2 PM on Sunday. I have not seen a consolation bracket yet.

Got kicked by Coquitlam. 22-1. Next: Maryland @ 9 pm. We are so cold we are hanging in the heated bathroom. Update shortly.

Idaho Lax and the Tewaaraton Trophy

OK - I got goofy about this. I have been a player and fan of Lacrosse since 1975, and I remember first learning about the Tewaaraton in the 80s. This award is the College Lacrosse equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, and is awarded to the best male AND female player of the year. This trophy has the names of the 2001-2007 winners. So cool to see Michael Powell, Kyle Harrison, Kristen Kjellman (2-time winner) and Matt Danowski's names on the trophy! Here is a photo of Will holding the coveted and respected trophy.

Here is the web site for the Tewaaraton Foundation: http://www.tewaaraton.com

We were wondering when a player from Idaho will win this one. The boys think it will be a couple of more generations - maybe their grandchildren's. It was fanastic! LAURA

Next game @ 5 pm.

Next game @ 5 pm. FYI- north idaho player John Kopke scored the single goal in the game v Seattle.

Losing 7-0 @ the half

Losing 7-0 @ the half v Seattle Elite.

2:15 PM Update: We lost this game 11-1. Seattle Elite took a beating last night, however. See next post.

Beautiful Saturday Sunrise in Renton

This is the view from the Bristol - where Rebecca and Laura are staying at Lisa's apartment. We can see the Olympics clearly. There is not a cloud in the sky - pretty unusual in December as I recall... Three games today - it will be a long one. I have the cell phone to blog update procedure in hand. Just gorgeous!!

Test.

Friday Night Games

I sent some updates via cell phone, but they are not appearing... We just spent a cold evening playing Lacrosse. The U-18 Boys won their game versus the Tacoma Red, 7-5. It was a very good game. We saw some not-so-good officiating, but the boys played well, and as good sportsmen.

The U-16 Boys lost to South Fraser (B.C.). Unfortunately, that game included some unsportsman-like conduct from the Canadian team.

Saturday Games:
10 AM: U-16
11 AM: U-18
4 PM: U-16 v. Pac Rim
5 PM: U-18 v. Coquitlam Adanacs 1 (oh no - more Canadians!)
9 PM U-18 v. MegaLax Maryland (these guys are REALLY good!)

Great Day! LAURA

Waiting to take the field...

Friday Night Schedule - Times are Pacific

8:00 PM - HS U-16: South Fraser v. Team Idaho

9:00 PM = Elite U-18: Tacoma Red v. Team Idaho (Will is on this team)

Look for other updates throughout the day. LAURA

Arrived in Renton. Hotel SNAFU

Will, Rebecca and I are staying at my sister Lisa's very nice apartment on Lake Washington. Lucky us. The other players who drove from North Idaho found their hotel to be not so good...

We will be meeting the Boise-area players tomorrow morning. They fly into Sea-Tac around 9 AM.
